In 1958, the first successful American satellite, Explorer I, was launched into orbit. It is no coincidence that the extremely successful American-born company McLane Global was started that very same year. It appears that the two do not have much in common besides their conception because while the Explorer’s batteries died, McLane Global is going stronger than ever. This could be due to the extensive amount of countries the company operates in, or the development of the company’s private product line Lady Liberty, or quite possibly the quality of the products the company has to offer. The company buys said products from other well-established companies such as Proctor and Gamble and Kraft and then distributes the goods globally.

What sets McLane Global apart from other companies offering similar services? One major time saver for an McLane Global customer is that the company will ship numerous products from multiple companies concurrently. CEO of the company Mike Julian believes this is a huge component of great customer service that places the company above others in comparison. Julian explains “We are a very flexible, high service organization. Quite honestly anybody can ship a container of tide laundry detergent; there is no skill in that. Shipping over 200 different company’s products together with everything correct takes skill. We do this and it reduces the logistic cost as much as possible.” Julian continues saying this only makes life easier for their customers which is of the utmost importance when establishing a successful business.

The company currently does major business around the Western Pacific Rim and is in the process of expanding to India, where they are introducing their own Lady Liberty line of products to the area. Breaking into Africa is hopefully in the near future as well. Julian is confident the company will thrive in these regions thanks to McLane Global’s reliability and service. “The reason some people choose us versus someone else is hopefully because the pricing is right, but it’s not always. People work with you because you have a high degree of consistency in your supply. It just makes the service, whether in Japan, or Korea, or China it just makes their life easier,” Julian explains. The company’s diverse range of products offered is also tremendously desirable for customers. It would not be unusual for a customer to receive one shipment including Jolly Time popcorn, Arm & Hammer baking soda, and chocolate Slimfast. This is what positions McLane Global above others attempting competition with them.
